A New Year, A Clearer Focus
Why, hello there 2026!
A new year has a funny way of creating both optimism and pressure.
Suddenly we’re all supposed to have a perfect plan, a word of the year (mine is “flambaffles”), and a neatly mapped path forward by January 2nd.
That’s not how real work (or real progress) happens.
My Focus This Year
For me, the coming year is about doing fewer things better:
Spending more time on work that actually moves the needle
Saying “no” faster when something doesn’t align with my goals
Being intentional about where my energy goes: clients, projects, and learning
Less noise. More impact.
Not flashy goals. Sustainable ones.
A Thought for You
If you’re setting professional goals this year, consider this instead of a long checklist:
What’s one thing you should stop doing?
What’s one skill or habit that would make everything else easier?
What would “steady improvement” look like by June, not December?
Progress doesn’t need to be dramatic to be meaningful.
The Real Win
If, a year from now, you’re:
Less reactive
More confident in your decisions
Better at protecting your time
That’s a successful year.
Here’s to a year of clearer priorities, fewer fire drills (🤞🏼), and work that actually feels worth doing.
Happy New Year.
